Filete Porteño – The Original Street Art

Despite what you might think, Filete Porteño is not yet another cut of steak, but it is something you will see a lot of in your time here. Originally the decoration on horse-drawn carts, it has evolved to an art-form that has come to represent the city of Buenos Aires. Characterised by bright colours, elaborate lettering and five-petalled flowers it can be seen everywhere from buses to shopfronts.

Our tour takes you to one of the areas where Filete is most in evidence. The 700 block of Jean Jaures (that contains the Carlos Gardel musuem) was chosen in 2004 to be decorated as part of a celebration of this typically Porteño style, and the colours and flourishes that remain to this day make it a unique place.
